MELBOURNE, Fla. (WFLA) — Heavy rain caused the roof of a community center to collapse on Tuesday, while over a dozen people were inside.
According to NBC affiliate WESH, the incident happened just after 2:30 p.m. at the Joseph N. Davis Community Center.
This occurred after Brevard County saw over four inches of rainfall.
"It sounded like, um, like, a whole bunch of water just came straight down," said a boy who was inside the community center when the roof caved in.
A Melbourne Fire spokesperson told reporters that 20 people were evacuated from the center and no injuries were reported.
City officials told reporters they will place a tarp over the collapsed area until it can be repaired.
The community center, which hosts youth sports and other activities, will remain closed until further notice.
