PORT RICHEY, Fla. (WFLA) — A Port Richey man is accused of trying to set his parents' house on fire after they refused to give him $40 for marijuana.
The Pasco County Sheriff's Office said Muneshwar Harnarain got into an argument with his parents on Wednesday night after they didn't give him money for marijuana.
According to an arrest affidavit, Harnarain got upset and punched his hand through a glass window on the garage door.
When the man's parents went into another room, deputies said Harnarain poured a large amount of gasoline throughout the home.
He called his parents and told them he was going to set the home on fire because of them, the affidavit said.
In fear for their lives, the man's parents called law enforcement officers. Harnarain reportedly tried to clean up the gasoline before attempting to leave the house.
While detained, Harnarain told deputies he got injured by punching the glass and then poured gas throughout the home to set it on fire.
He was arrested and charged with attempted arson. He was also charged with resisting without violence because he tried to pull away from deputies while they searched him.
He was taken to a hospital to get his hand injury treated and then later to the Land O' Lakes Jail.
