NEW YORK, NY (WFLA) — A 9-year-old girl’s quick thinking helped police catch an intruder who was attempting to break into her family’s home.
Around 5:53 a.m. on April 3, the child called 911 from a cell phone to report that someone was trying to enter the home through a downstairs window.
The Westminster Police Department said the girl told dispatchers that she and the rest of her family were upstairs at the time of the incident.
According to police, the intruder smashed through a window before the girl’s father doused him with pepper spray and was able to drag the trespasser back outside.
Police arrived at the scene and found the intruder in a neighbor’s backyard.
Westminster police identified the man as Jorge Mendoza Diaz and arrested him.
He has been charged with residential burglary, according to authorities.
