BROOKSVILLE, Fla. (WFLA) — The City of Brooksville Fire Department and Hernando County Fire Rescue announced they will merge fire protection services starting Oct. 1.
According to a release, beginning in October, Hernando County Fire Rescue will assume full responsibility within the City of Brooksville for fire suppression, fire prevention, rescue, emergency medical response services and other related emergency services.
This move is intended to strengthen public safety and improve emergency response capabilities by strategically ensuring a unified and enhanced level of fire rescue services.
The release also announced that fire units operating in Brooksville will be equipped with advanced life support (ALS) capabilities that align with the high standards already in place across the country.
Cross-trained firefighters, paramedics and EMTs will staff each unit, ensuring the highest level of care during medical emergencies.
The City of Brooksville fire station will remain operational under Hernando County Fire Rescue, and existing personnel will be integrated into the county's systems.
