TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — It’s a sea of green and gold balloons and banners at the University of South Florida as they welcomed students home for the fall semester.
Today, 3000 students here at USF’s Tampa campus got the keys to their dorms and started moving in this morning with a grand opening.
“We are very excited for everybody to arrive on campus and have been working very hard to prepare for their arrival," said Ana Hernandez, associate vice president of auxiliary services and strategic contract management. "So we want them to remember to stay hydrated and try to just enjoy the experience."
Nearly 7,500 students across all three USF campuses. Tampa, St Pete, and Sarasota will be living on campus. That number means student housing is at capacity, and preparedness is key.
“Relax, calm down because it can get a bit overwhelming,” USF junior Emily Cruz said.
We found students, and parents ready to work with a get it done attitude
“Well this was easy," incoming freshman parent Rachel Frye said. "We pulled up to the curb, we checked in, we saw the sign for the cart, made two trips up, conquered and divide."
Sunscreen and sneakers also help.
USF leaders said they’re estimating 10,000 people on campus today as part of move-in day.
