TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — A large cloud of black smoke could be seen from WFLA's downtown tower cam on Wednesday afternoon.
Hillsborough County Fire Rescue said they were dispatched to a diesel fuel fire on US-301 in Tampa.
The fire was said to have broken out behind a commercial complex on 503 US-301.
"Calls to the HCFR dispatch center reported a diesel fuel leak that had ignited and was flowing toward a sewer behind the building," an HCFR release stated. "First-arriving crews found two vehicles fully engulfed in flames, with burning fuel running toward and into a storm drain."
The fire was quickly suppressed by firefighters after they arrived on the scene, establishing a perimeter to prevent people from being hurt by the fumes.
A dike was also built to keep more fuel from getting into the sewer lines.
The fire was brought under control within 40 minutes. No one was injured.
The cause is under investigation.
