GLADSTONE, Mo. (WFLA) — Shocking video captured the moment a house in a Kansas City suburb exploded, sending debris flying and producing shockwaves that were felt blocks away.
The blast, which happened on Saturday, killed one person who was inside the home at the time, as well as a large dog, local station KCTV reported.
Fire crews responded to the scene to find the house completely destroyed, the City of Gladstone said in a press release.
Neighboring homes were evacuated out of precaution, but the cause of the explosion is still under investigation.
The neighbor whose home camera captured the blast said the noise was so loud she thought a bomb had gone off.
“The house shook like a bomb had hit, and the fixtures fell off of the ceiling in the kitchen, knocked all of us off our feet,” she told KCTV. “We just knew that the ceiling was coming down and like, fixtures were falling, and windows were being blown out. Our car alarms were going off, the windows in our cars blew out. We grabbed the animals and ran.”
Crews contained the fire and determined there was no ongoing threat to the community, and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives will assist in the investigation, KCTV reported.
