FORT MYERS, Fla. (WFLA) — A man was arrested Sunday after driving his car into a crowd of people, according to the Lee County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies responded to an incident in the 2000 block of Maravilla Circle in Fort Myers.
An investigation revealed that the suspect, Eduardo Lando-Matamoro, 55, drove his car into a group of people in a residential driveway following a verbal altercation.
Two people were struck by the car and injured.
Witnesses told law enforcement they then shot at Lando-Matamoro, hitting him in the shoulder. Before the suspect could flee, the two witnesses grabbed him and held him on the ground until authorities arrived.
Body camera video shows deputies arriving at the scene and finding the witness, wearing a teal shirt, with his arm around Lando-Matamoro, pressing him into his body and rendering him unable to move.
Deputies said they arrested Lando-Matamoro and took him, along with the two victims, to a nearby hospital.
All three suffered non-life-threatening injuries.
“I am incredibly proud of the brave witness who stepped up and helped stop the suspect. Their quick actions made a real difference,” said Sheriff Carmine Marceno.
The Lee County Sheriff’s Office charged Lando-Matamoro with multiple counts of aggravated battery with a deadly weapon.
