TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) -- University of Florida football player Dijon Johnson was arrested in Tampa last week.
Hillsborough County Jail records state Johnson, 21, was charged with drug and firearm-related offenses.
Tampa police stopped him in a Dodge Challenger in the area of 4th Avenue and North 17th Street in Ybor City on May 2. Officers said they pulled him over after he stopped past the stop bar.
Johnson "immediately became argumentative," according to a Tampa Police Department arrest report, and officers reported a "strong odor of marijuana emanating from the vehicle." Police said Johnson repeatedly refused to get out of the car and had to be removed.
Officers found marijuana, as well as eight grams of synthetic marijuana, inside of a backpack, the arrest report stated. Johnson's passport was in the bag.
Police also found a Glock 19 firearm inside of the car, which was loaded with 17 rounds in the magazine and none in the chamber, according to TPD.
Johnson was charged with resisting an officer without violence, possession of cannabis, possession of a controlled substance and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony.
He was booked into the Hillsborough County Jail and bonded out on Sunday. He pleaded not guilty to the charges.
Johnson, a defensive back in his junior year, is a Tampa native and attended Wharton High School.
